02/08/2023If your website is failing to generate the results your hoped for you need to learn to avoid the common website design mistakes that small businesses do.
Studio1Design team, recently, shared an infographic with 21 common website mistakes that you should avoid if you want your website to flourish.
Here are a few that make their list:
- Outdated look and feel
- Not leading with value first
- No lead magnet
- No marketing funnel
- No ‘Thank You’ page offer
- Not displaying enough social proof
Mistake #1: Outdated look and feel
You need to keep your website updated and up to date. Your website needs to appeal to a targeted audience.
Mistake #2: Not leading with value first
According to research by the Studio1Design team, 97% of your visitors aren’t ready to buy, so don’t sell on “Hello”!! It is unlikely that people will buy from you if they have only just discovered your website. Try to make a sale straight away, and lead with value first.
Mistake #3: No Lead Magnet
You need to give a reason to your visitors to return and engage with your website. Visitors care about ‘what’s in it for them so give them a reason to get to know, like, and trust you. Educate your cold prospects first to help them on their journey, with things like a: Checklist, Quiz, Downloadable Guide, Video Series, Challenge, Free Trial, VIP Club Benefits, etc. The free content can also be in the form of blog posts, free podcasts, and free videos, and have a goal of capturing an email address.
Mistake #4: No Marketing funnel
It is necessary to have a lead magnet and a marketing funnel that’s designed to build trust over time. Businesses that have a marketing funnel are twice as likely to see a significant boost in sales. Your marketing funnel could be very simple and have only two steps to a sale, or it may have many steps delivered by email over time. It all depends on your offer, your price point, and your target audience.
Mistake #5: No ‘Thank You‘ page offer
After somebody opts into your free lead magnet, most businesses send them to a simple page that says ‘thank you for downloading our free eBook’. That approach is a terrible idea. If your prospects have just said YES to your free offer it means they want more, so allow them to have more from you. Also, have another offer on your ‘thank you’ page. It could be a: webinar, a survey, a free strategy session, a limited-time offer, or something to get them further down your marketing funnel.
Mistake #6: Not displaying enough social proof
Another key mistake that your should avoid is social proof which is one of the most powerful psychological to influence people to take action on your website. People are skeptical of claims made on websites. People want proof from other people they identify with that are in a similar situation as them. Having social proof testimonials or case studies from existing customers will provide proof that your product or service gets great results.
There are also many other ways to display social proof on your website, including:
- Video Testimonials
- Story-Based Case Studies
- Referred Authority (Photos of you alongside an authority figure)
- Written Testimonials
- Customer Reviews
- Numbers – If you have high numbers of customers you have helped, social media followers, etc, then display them in large numbers on your website.
