06/07/2024Reddit has provided new insights into how Redditors utilize the app for holiday shopping
research, noting that many are actively searching for deals as early as six months before the
holiday season begins. Reddit has emerged as a crucial tool for discovery and validation for
many users.
According to Reddit:
“When it comes to gifting, Reddit is an early destination for holiday shoppers as the #1 source
for real reviews on products and brands to gift. Reddit provides real advice and
recommendations specific to shoppers and their needs. 1-in-3 shopper who first heard
about a product or service on independent review sites, Amazon, or even Google, turned to
Reddit for additional research on that potential purchase. Once folks are here, 85% of people
who used Reddit when looking into holiday gifting ultimately made a purchase.”
Based on its research, Reddit has formulated three key tips to help brands optimize their
marketing efforts by connecting with holiday shoppers.
Firstly, Reddit recommends that brands align their campaigns with seasonal shopping
behaviors.
“Starting in April, travel accounts for 35% of holiday conversations, while discussions about
holiday parties make up 8%. Meanwhile, gifting is already a significant topic, comprising 22% of
the conversations. By November – December, hosting and menu planning have moved to the
largest total share of conversations.”
Based on this, Reddit advises brands to strategically plan their marketing outreach and notes
that many Redditors are inclined to support small businesses when purchasing gifts.
Additionally, Reddit recommends that brands implement a full-funnel strategy to engage
prospective consumers at every stage of the purchase cycle.
By addressing each of these aspects in your promotions, you can maximize the effectiveness of
your Reddit ads and offer pertinent solutions when they are sought.
Lastly, Reddit advises brands to align their campaigns with current holiday trends.
“The 2023 holiday season sparked reflections on the past and present, with popular subreddits
dedicated to specific decades like r/90s and r/80s experiencing increased traffic. Users shared
nostalgic memories of holidays gone by, fostering a sense of catharsis and connection in
communities like r/AskOldPeople. Positivity shone through in uplifting spaces such as
r/mademesmile, where members reminisced about lost loved ones and sought silver linings
during the holidays.”
Reddit also observes an uptick in discussions within financial subreddits starting around August,
as people begin to plan for the holidays. This period could present a prime opportunity to offer
early sales deals. Additionally, Reddit highlights that many Redditors are last-minute shoppers,
emphasizing the importance of catering to this segment as well.
The platform is increasingly becoming a significant hub for product research, thanks to its recent
collaboration with Google, which has boosted referral traffic to subreddit listings. This
development could open up new opportunities. With 82.7 million daily active users and growing,
it might be advantageous to explore the expanding advertising options within the app.
