Meta Introduces Video Calling Enhancements – Featuring HD Video Calls

Meta has unveiled new updates for audio and video calls on Messenger and Facebook, just in time for your holiday conversations.

Meta is introducing HD video calls, which will be enabled by default for calls made over WiFi. The improved clarity of HD will enhance your video calling experience, offering a sharper connection during chats.

As you can see in this example you’ll also have the option to switch on HD video calls using mobile data as well, providing improved video calling within its apps.

Additionally, Meta is rolling out background noise suppression and voice isolation to ensure clearer, higher-quality calls.

Meta also adds the option to send audio or video voice messages if someone misses your call.

Meta’s iOS users will also have the option to ask Siri for help with sending text messages.

According to Meta:

“When your hands are full or your phone is out of reach, you can now ask Siri to help you make calls and messages wherever you are. Try something like: “Hey Siri, send a message to Cassandra on Messenger” and then dictate what that message will be.”

“In September, we announced new ways to personalize Messenger chat themes with unique, AI-generated images from Meta AI. Soon, you’ll be able to use AI backgrounds in Messenger video calls to reflect how you’re feeling or just add a little excitement to your call.”

AI-generated images may not be for everyone, and Meta’s push to encourage users to create them during video calls could feel a bit much. However, it could still offer a fun, personalized option for your video chats.
