18/07/2024How Generative AI Is Being Utilized by B2B Brands [Infographic]
29/07/2024It’s refreshing to see an original idea coming from Instagram after a while. Recently, Instagram announced a new feature that lets users add multiple music tracks to their Reels, allowing for varied soundtrack elements within a single clip.
As shown in these example screens, users can now include up to 20 tracks in a single Reel, allowing them to overlap or merge to fit different phases of the clip. Technically, users can achieve a similar effect in CapCut, TikTok’s video editor, but it’s not specifically designed for this type of multi-track mixing.
With this feature, users can play DJ by layering tracks and creating entirely new versions of songs. You could use it for abrupt changes when your Reel shifts focus or mix old and new versions of songs to reflect the passage of time. There are numerous creative ways to apply this, and it will likely inspire new audio trends within the app.
Additionally, other users will be able to use the same audio you’ve created in their own clips, and they can access a full listing of the tracks you’ve added (as shown in the last two frames above).
It’s a great addition and, as noted, an interesting and mostly original concept from an Instagram team that has largely drawn inspiration from TikTok in recent years.
That’s not necessarily a criticism, as TikTok is clearly attuned to the zeitgeist, making replication sensible. However, it’s good to see Instagram come up with a fresh take on a key trend, which will undoubtedly inspire its own imitators.
