13/11/2024CapCut, the video editing application owned by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, announced a new “Commerce Pro” package to assist retailers in producing higher-quality content for their online platforms.
According to CapCut:
“Whether you’re producing content for social media or enhancing storefront visuals, whether in images or videos, CapCut Commerce Pro empowers you to create professional, engaging content that drives business results. Perfect for those looking to streamline their creative process and elevate their brand presence.”
The package features a variety of commerce creation tools tailored for TikTok, including a process that generates video clips using only your product URL, along with multiple options for incorporating shoppable links into your videos.
It also offers some of TikTok’s more sophisticated selling features, including access to TikTok’s AI avatars, which can “help bring your content to life by assisting with everything from product demonstrations to explainer videos.” Virtual avatars have gained significant popularity in China, and TikTok is optimistic that they will appeal to Western audiences too. This feature allows you to create and utilize these digital characters in various video promotions.
There’s also a new “Virtual Try On” element:
“Select an AI model to virtually try on products and generate photos, showcasing your product.”
CapCut Commerce Pro also allows for scheduling and automatic publishing across various channels, along with performance insights to help manage your campaigns. Additionally, it offers seasonal templates for events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday to personalize your promotions.
This package is certainly appealing to retail creators, providing a diverse range of options for your marketing efforts.
Overall, CapCut is an excellent video editing tool, suitable not only for TikTok but also for your promotions on other platforms. However, there are concerns about whether CapCut will remain accessible in the U.S. if TikTok is eventually banned from the market.
Currently, TikTok is facing a forced divestment in the U.S. due to security issues related to its connections with its Chinese parent company. There are concerns that the Chinese government could potentially use TikTok for data collection or information dissemination. In response, U.S. Senators have voted to require the app to be sold to a U.S. owner or be removed from the country altogether.
Chinese officials, who perceive this action as “bullying behavior” by the U.S., have pledged to oppose the ruling and seek TikTok’s removal from America rather than allow it to be sold to a U.S. owner. This could mean that the sell-off bill might effectively lead to a ban on the app, and if TikTok is eliminated, other Chinese applications, particularly those owned by ByteDance, could also be removed from the U.S. market.
Thus, if TikTok is banned, CapCut is likely to follow suit. If you’re considering increasing your reliance on a video editing tool, it’s important to keep in mind that CapCut could potentially vanish from the U.S. as early as next year. While there’s still a considerable way to go before TikTok’s future is determined—or whether it will be banned, as the company is actively pursuing a legal challenge—this is something to take into account.
Regarding pricing, CapCut Commerce Pro operates on a “freemium” model, allowing you to create the first 200 seconds of video for free before requiring you to transition to a paid subscription, which is priced at $26 per month or $250 annually.
This pricing seems reasonable, and with some advanced features, it could be worth the investment, barring any other considerations.
Currently, CapCut Commerce Pro is available only in the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Australia, Brazil, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
