Cultivating a Learning Culture: Boosting Employee Retention Through Effective Training
09/10/2024Prepare for the next evolution of AI-generated content as Meta introduces its new video creation tool, “Movie Gen,” set to launch soon within its apps.
We’ve shared more details on the models and Movie Gen capabilities in a new blog post ➡️ https://t.co/J1dwK6p1jT pic.twitter.com/w0U3WZxmLm— AI at Meta (@AIatMeta) October 4, 2024
Meta’s upcoming Movie Gen AI tool aims to bring generative video content creation directly into its apps, offering users the ability to create HD videos based on simple text prompts. You could generate videos of almost anything, from baby animals to personalized experiences like Mark Zuckerberg did, showcasing himself in unreal settings.
The intriguing part of Movie Gen is its ability to enhance real user videos, adding layers of AI-generated elements around actual footage. While it’s technically impressive, there’s a question of whether it aligns with the social aspect that platforms like Instagram and Facebook are built upon. Traditional social media thrives on people sharing their real-life experiences, interactions, and creativity—something Movie Gen’s AI-generated content might struggle to replicate.
Novelty vs. Engagement: Although AI-generated content will likely get attention as a novelty, it risks being less engaging in the long term. People may appreciate these features for fun experiments, but will they become a meaningful part of their social interactions? Similar features, like AI chatbots based on celebrities in Meta’s Messenger, haven’t taken off, showing that people are more drawn to real, human-centric connections over simulated interactions.

Meta seems convinced that AI will play a significant role in shaping the future of social media, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg stating that: “Every part of what we do is going to get changed in some way [by AI]. [For example] feeds are going to go from – you know, it was already friend content, and now it’s largely creators. In the future, a lot of it is going to be AI generated.”
AI will soon dominate users’ feeds, shifting away from content purely created by friends and even creators. The idea is that AI tools will empower new forms of creativity. But the core question remains: Is this what people want?
For some practical use cases, like AI avatars selling products in livestreams or content-enhancement tools, these developments hold promise. However, there’s still a noticeable gap between AI advancements and real-world utility for everyday users. Right now, it feels like most of these AI tools are exciting novelties, but they may lack the long-term engagement needed to become foundational elements of social platforms.
