21/10/2024As the generative AI hype cycle gains momentum, platforms are racing to incorporate AI creation tools into their systems to enhance creativity and increase engagement. However, many of the generative AI features introduced in social apps have so far appeared somewhat lackluster.
AI chatbots can assist with content discovery, but they don’t offer significant improvements over existing search tools. Generative AI images allow users to place themselves in fantastical scenarios, which may be intriguing at first, but the novelty tends to fade quickly.
Meta is also developing generative AI video creation tools that allow users to insert themselves into imagined scenarios. While this is fascinating from a technological perspective, it remains uncertain whether people will find these tools engaging or how they will fit into social environments.
Creators and influencers are exploring new ways to leverage AI, with both Meta and TikTok providing opportunities for them to create AI-generated versions of themselves that can stream content on their behalf.
Is this a positive development, or does it undermine the very foundations of social platforms? To gain insights into influencers’ perspectives on this issue, HypeAuditor conducted a survey of 620 Instagram influencers to explore their thoughts on AI tools for content creation, digital clones, AI-generated content, and more.
In the below infographic are some interesting observations regarding the broader shift toward AI in social media:
