How to Create LinkedIn Content That Attracts the Right Audience

With new subscriptions and premium features, a question arises: will social media remain free?
Industry reports note social media will stay free, but advanced features, AI tools, and creator services may become paid. Investment in AI, revenue pressures, and spam are driving new monetisation beyond ads.
This section highlights key feature updates and policy shifts by major social platforms this week.
Meta Expands Paid Social Media Subscription Features
Meta continues investing in subscriptions across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Meta is testing Meta One, a premium plan with advanced AI, more image and video tools, higher limits, and added experiences. Meta is also testing separate subscriptions for creators and businesses, possibly including profile upgrades, better discoverability, and growth tools. This matches Meta’s strategy to diversify revenue and emphasise AI.
Meta Launches “Forum” for Community Conversations
Alongside its subscription push, Meta has introduced a new app called Forum, focused entirely on Facebook Groups and community discussions.
The app lets users explore conversations, find new communities, and join discussions. Unlike Facebook’s main feed, Forum prioritises interaction, with an interface similar to Reddit. The launch reflects Meta’s focus on building communities and boosting engagement around shared interests.
Instagram Brings Teleprompter Feature to the Main App
Instagram expands its teleprompter from Edits to the main app, simplifying content creation. Creators can display scripts while recording, helping maintain eye contact with the camera. Adam Mosseri says users can set scroll speeds to fit their speaking pace. The goal is to help creators stay on-message and reduce retakes.
As short videos grow in popularity, tools that make production easier become more valuable to creators and brands.
X Targets Accounts Reposting Creator Content
X announced measures to limit large accounts from reposting smaller creators’ content without credit. Some users systematically repost content to profit from X’s revenue-sharing. Product head Nikita Bier says X can now better detect reposted content. Impressions and revenue from reposts will be credited to the original creator when possible. This aims to protect original content and improve fairness for creators.
YouTube Makes AI Labels More Visible
YouTube adds prominent AI labels as concerns about AI-generated content grow. AI labels were previously hidden in video descriptions, making them hard to see. They will now appear below videos and within Shorts for notable AI-generated content.
YouTube is also improving its systems to automatically identify AI-generated content. If creators do not disclose AI use, YouTube may add labels using detection technology, C2PA, and SynthID. This update reflects wider industry calls for transparency around AI media.
YouTube Introduces New Audio-Focused Viewing Features
YouTube adds Premium features for users who prefer long-form content such as podcasts and interviews. On-the-Go mode delivers audio-focused viewing with large controls and static images, and can auto-activate when users are on the move. Auto Speed adjusts playback, slowing at key moments and speeding through less important sections. All new features will be optional and fully customisable.
The Bigger Picture for Social Media
This week’s updates reflect a clear direction: AI integration, subscription revenue, and creator monetisation are no longer experiments. They are becoming standard across every major platform.
360° View
The free-to-use model is not disappearing, but the gap between free and paid is widening. Basic access stays available. Everything that actually improves performance, reach, or production quality is moving behind a paywall. That shift is already underway, and this week’s updates confirm it is accelerating.
Meta One and the creator subscription tests are the clearest signal. Meta is building a tiered system in which paying users get better tools and greater visibility. For brands and businesses managing accounts on behalf of clients, that have budget implications worth factoring in now rather than later.
The Forum app is worth watching. A Reddit-style interface built around Facebook Groups targets a specific behaviour that Facebook’s main feed has always handled poorly. Whether it gains traction depends on whether existing communities migrate to it or ignore it entirely.
YouTube’s AI labelling update is practical and overdue. Hiding disclosure information in descriptions was never a real transparency measure. Labels appearing below videos and in Shorts put the information where viewers can actually see it. For anyone producing AI-assisted content, voluntary disclosure is now the safer approach before automated detection does it for you.
X crediting original creators for repost impressions is, in principle, a reasonable policy. In practice, enforcement will be the real test.
For teams managing multiple client accounts across platforms, the common thread this week is cost. More tools, more tiers, more decisions about where to spend. Worth building that conversation into client strategy reviews sooner rather than later.
